A brutal nationwide legacy has been pinpointed at the Winnipeg landfill in Manitoba. Bereaved family members, social and political agencies and opportunists are expressing a collective outrage and demand that the bodies of two missing Indigenous women be found.

The projected cost of a search is estimated to be from $84 to $184 million, while offering no certainty of success and considerable risk to those who search. Let us note that it is not just victims of crime whose mortal remains are lost to us.

Countless sets of human remains lie beneath the sea, lost to war and shipwreck. Mount Everest climbers remain forever entombed in the mountaintop ice. Coal miners lie in collapsed mines around the world. Lost soldiers and airmen from two world wars are still being recovered from time to time.

Yet life goes on, families make their peace and new generations come into being while memories fade. I propose that the federal and Manitoba governments set aside a middle sum of $100 million to fund a memorial scholarship fund in support of Manitoba Aboriginal youth who would attend adult secondary and post-secondary training.

Invested at five per cent, this sum would generate $5 million annually, which could fund 500 individual $10,000 scholarships, generating 150 offerings per year for perhaps three years average duration. Let the loss of these two women be the spur to divert their younger brothers and sisters from a similar fate.

Trump, Putin benefit from Middle East war

Another Middle East war. Why? Who benefits? The first, most obvious beneficiary is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Bibi has been indicted in a number of corruption cases. Israeli safety concerns would extricate him from possible conviction and even jail time.

Supporting evidence? How can one of the most advanced and sophisticated military regimes in the world be caught with their pants down? The added bonus? This will allow Netanyahu to permanently go into Gaza/West Bank to “control” those criminal terrorist Palestinians.

The second beneficiary could be Vladimir Putin losing in Ukraine. Distraction. His support for Hamas against the Jews in Israel plays well in the Middle East; remember Volodymyr Zelenskyy is both Ukrainian AND

Jewish. Another “Two-fer” that plays well.

The third beneficiary may be Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei. He said “Muslim countries normalizing relations with Israel were betting on a losing horse; Israel will be eradicated by the hands of the Palestinian people

and the resistance forces throughout the region.”

Tehran could succeed in scuttling a Saudi deal with Israel as well as wrecking that kingdom’s hopes of acquiring nuclear energy. Khamenei may think the demise of Hamas is a price worth paying.

The final beneficiary is America’s GOP. American intelligence was also caught flatfooted. President Biden wears the title “Loser.” A conspiracy theorist’s field day. A coup as damaging to America as Hunka was to Canada.

Maybe that’s why Netanyahu, Putin, Khamenei, Trump are all smiling.
