St Patrick’s win second FAI Cup Final in three years

St Patrick’s have won their second FAI Cup Championship Final in three years in a match against Bohemian FC today.

The Inchicore-based football team beat Bohs three points to one.

This is St Pats second win in three years after beating the same opponent in the 2021 FAI Championship Cup in penalties.

A record crowd of 43,000 attended the FAI final in the Aviva Stadium.

The match itself lasted longer than anyone expected after fans, disappointed at the fire marshal deeming flags and displays as flammable before kick-off, lit flares around the ground.

The first half of the match lasted 50 minutes following delays caused by smoke and spectators at home watched the match through red mist.

Jonathan Afolabi scored the first goal for Bohs in the ninth minute, but goals from Mark Doyle and Tommy Lonergan and an own goal from Krystian Nowak secured a win for St Pat’s.

St Patrick’s Jamie Lennon was voted Player of the Match.
